A MyCashflow to Shopify migration is really two things: moving the data and functionality of your current store to a new platform, and making sure sales and search visibility do not suffer along the way. We handle both in the same project.
We do not start with data. We start with an audit. MyCashflow stores differ a lot depending on which platform features and customizations are in use. Only once we know what the store contains can we decide what is migrated as-is, what is rebuilt differently on Shopify, and what can be dropped.
When moving from MyCashflow to Shopify makes sense
MyCashflow works well for a Finnish SMB store, and a platform change should be driven by business reasons. Typical valid reasons to move to Shopify:
- International or multilingual sales. Multiple markets, currencies and languages are Shopify's strength.
- App ecosystem. The Shopify App Store often has a ready solution where MyCashflow would need custom development.
- Marketing and analytics tooling. Klaviyo, ad platform integrations and tracking are more broadly supported.
- Freedom to develop the storefront and buying journey.
- A growing catalog or more complex product structures.
Just as often the right answer is not to move. If the current store works, Finnish payment and delivery methods are in place and international expansion is not on the table, staying on MyCashflow is cheaper. We say so during the audit. We compared the platforms in our article MyCashflow vai Shopify.
What can be migrated from MyCashflow to Shopify
Below is a typical scope. The final scope is confirmed in the audit, because much of it depends on how the store was built.
Products and variants
Products, descriptions, prices, stock levels and variants are migrated. Note that Shopify's variant model differs from MyCashflow's and has limits on variant counts. Products with many option combinations or configurable structures need a plan up front - sometimes that means metafields or an app.
Categories and collections
A MyCashflow category tree does not map one-to-one, because the Shopify equivalent is a collection, either manual or automated. In practice this is a good moment to clean up the structure: most stores have accumulated categories nobody uses.
Customer data
Customers, addresses and marketing consents are migrated. Passwords cannot be migrated - that is a security practice, not a limitation. Customers set a new password on first login, and this should be communicated at launch. Marketing consents must be handled so that nobody receives email without permission.
Order history
Orders can be migrated as historical data. They appear in the Shopify admin and in customer accounts, but do not connect to the payment provider the way native Shopify orders do. The right approach depends on whether the history is needed for customer service, reporting or accounting.
Images and media
Product and content images are moved to Shopify's CDN. This is a good time to check image sizes and alt texts, which affect both page speed and image search visibility.
Content pages and blog
Static pages and articles are migrated. These are often forgotten in migrations - and they are exactly the pages that have accumulated search visibility.
SEO data and meta fields
Title and meta description fields are migrated for products, collections and content pages. If they were never filled in on MyCashflow, a migration is a natural moment to do it properly.
URLs and 301 redirects
This is the single most critical part for search visibility. Shopify enforces certain URL structures such as /products/ and /collections/, so old MyCashflow URLs will not survive as-is.
- Collect current URLs from the sitemap, Google Search Console and analytics.
- Prioritise by traffic and rankings - not every URL matters equally.
- Build the URL map: old URL → new URL.
- Implement 301 redirects in Shopify before launch.
- After launch, monitor 404s and indexing and fill in missing redirects.
Integrations, payments and shipping
Integrations are not migrated - they are rebuilt. We review at least the following:
- Payment methods: Paytrail, Klarna, Stripe or Shopify Payments.
- Delivery methods and shipping labels: Posti, Matkahuolto, DB Schenker.
- Accounting and ERP: order, product and stock synchronisation.
- Email marketing, for example Klaviyo.
- Analytics, conversion tracking and ad platform tags.
- Reviews, customer service tools and other add-on services.
MyCashflow-specific features that need a new approach
Every MyCashflow store has something with no direct Shopify equivalent. Typical cases include customer group pricing and discounts, broader B2B functionality, custom product fields and filters, MyCashflow campaign logic and custom order forms. On Shopify there are usually three options: a ready-made app, a solution built into the theme or metafields, or dropping the feature if it is not actually used. The choice is made case by case - and it should be made before migration work starts, not after.
Migration phases
- Audit. Current data, integrations, custom features, traffic and key pages.
- Plan. What is migrated, rebuilt or dropped. Schedule and responsibilities.
- Shopify store setup. Structure, collections, theme and storefront.
- Trial data migration. The first import is checked and corrected before the final one.
- Integrations, payment and delivery methods.
- URL mapping and 301 redirects.
- Testing. Buying journey, payments, taxes, shipping fees, order confirmations, mobile.
- Launch. Final data migration, DNS switch and redirects activated.
- Post-launch monitoring. Indexing, 404s, conversion and sales.
Risks to plan for
- Loss of search visibility. The most common and most expensive mistake, almost always caused by missing 301 redirects.
- Custom features discovered too late. A shallow audit means a missing feature surfaces after launch.
- A dip in conversion. A new look does not automatically sell better. The buying journey deserves its own evaluation.
- Poor data quality. Incomplete product data migrates as incomplete data. A migration is a good time to clean up.
- Timing. Do not launch right before a season or a major campaign.
- Two live stores. The old store should be closed in a controlled way so the same content is not indexed twice.
Why Avania
We work with both platforms in practice - MyCashflow and Shopify - so we know where their logic differs and what will not transfer directly. Avania is an official MyCashflow partner.
We are not only a technical implementer. A platform change is practically the only moment when a store's structure, categorisation and buying journey can be reworked without a separate project, so we look at a migration from a usability and conversion angle too, not just data.
If you are considering a platform change, let's start with an audit. It shows what the migration actually requires - and also whether it is worth doing.

Can all data be migrated from MyCashflow to Shopify?
Most of it, but not everything automatically. Products, variants, categories, images, customer data and order history can usually be migrated. MyCashflow-specific fields, platform-level features and some calculated data need their own solution on Shopify. That is why a migration is always planned around your actual data and features, not a generic checklist.
Will I lose my Google rankings when changing platform?
Not if the migration is done carefully. Visibility is normally lost when old URLs are left unredirected. We collect the current URLs, build a URL map and implement 301 redirects before launch. We also migrate meta data and monitor indexing after go-live. Some short-term fluctuation in rankings is normal and usually settles within a few weeks.
How long does a MyCashflow to Shopify migration take?
It depends on catalog size, integrations and whether a new theme is built at the same time. A straightforward migration with a small catalog is clearly faster than one with an ERP integration, complex pricing and a new storefront. We give a schedule after the audit, once we know what the store actually contains.
Can order history be migrated to Shopify?
Yes, and it is worth migrating if customer service or reporting depends on it. Note that migrated orders are historical data in Shopify: they do not behave exactly like orders created in Shopify when it comes to refunds or payment transactions. Alternatively the history can be archived and only the most recent years migrated.
Is moving from MyCashflow to Shopify worth it at all?
Not automatically. MyCashflow is a solid platform for a Finnish SMB store. A move usually makes sense when you need international or multilingual sales, a broader app ecosystem, stronger marketing and analytics tooling, or more freedom to develop the storefront and checkout experience. If the current store works and grows, changing platform is not a goal in itself.
What happens to payment and delivery methods?
They are rebuilt on Shopify, not migrated. Finnish payment methods are handled through Paytrail, Klarna or Stripe, and Posti and Matkahuolto delivery methods through apps or integrations. We review your current payment and delivery methods during the audit and confirm an equivalent exists before migration work starts.
