Magento is a great platform for setting up a wholesale e-commerce store. Its versatile access control and pricing capabilities enable many types of wholesale setups.
It's possible to build a wholesale store alongside a traditional consumer store, where the same Magento installation runs both consumer-facing commerce and a wholesale store for businesses.
Wholesale features
- The wholesale store can be hidden behind login.
- Prices and the option to order can be hidden from unauthenticated users.
- Multiple customer groups can be set up with different discount percentages.

What is the difference between a wholesale store and a regular e-commerce store?
A wholesale store serves resellers and business customers, not consumers. Prices are typically customer- or customer group-specific, order sizes are larger and payment methods differ (e.g. invoicing). Wholesale is often hidden behind login so that prices and product selection are not visible to outsiders.
Can a wholesale store and a consumer store be combined in the same system?
Yes. With Magento, you can run both a consumer store (B2C) and a wholesale store (B2B) under the same installation - with their own URLs, price lists, payment methods and catalogs. Product and inventory management remain centralized.
How are customer-specific prices implemented?
Magento supports customer group-specific pricing, where different reseller groups have their own discount percentages or price lists. In addition, individual products can have customer group-specific fixed prices, and more complex rules can be built with pricing rules or via an ERP integration.
Can the wholesale store be hidden from unauthenticated users?
Yes. The store can be configured so that content, prices and ordering are only visible after login. New customers can be enrolled either via self-registration or through approved applications.
Which payment methods does a wholesale store support?
Typical B2B payment methods include invoicing, advance payment and card payment. Payment methods can be restricted by customer group: for example, invoicing is shown only to contract customers, while others are offered only advance payment.
Can a wholesale store be integrated with an ERP system?
Yes. Magento is typically integrated with ERP, inventory and accounting systems so that products, stock levels, prices, customers and orders flow automatically between systems. Integrations are designed case by case.
